"Captain America: Brave New World" (2025) follows Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as the new Captain America, grappling with his responsibilities and the legacy of his predecessor, Steve Rogers.
The film opens with President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) inviting Wilson and his partner, Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), to a summit at the White House. During the summit, an attack occurs, leading to the discovery of a new metal, adamantium, found on "Celestial Island," formed when the Celestial Tiamut emerged in the Indian Ocean. Ross proposes a treaty to govern adamantium's mining and distribution to prevent an arms race. However, the summit is disrupted when several individuals, including Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), are mind-controlled and attack Ross and other dignitaries.
Wilson and Torres investigate the incident, uncovering that Dr. Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson), exposed to Bruce Banner's blood during the Abomination's rampage, is using technology and the song "Mr. Blue" to control minds. Sterns's plan involves destroying Ross's reputation and causing international conflict over adamantium.
The narrative culminates in a confrontation on Celestial Island, where Ross, under Sterns's influence, transforms into the Red Hulk, leading to a destructive rampage. Wilson attempts to calm Ross by reminding him of his daughter, Betty Ross, ultimately restoring him to his human form. The film concludes with the ratification of the adamantium treaty, the exoneration of Isaiah Bradley, and Ross's imprisonment at the Raft. In a post-credits scene, Sterns warns Wilson of a coming attack from other worlds, setting up future Marvel films.
"Captain America: Brave New World" has received mixed reviews. Critics have praised the performances, particularly Mackie's portrayal of Sam Wilson, but have criticized the film for its pacing and lack of depth. Some reviews describe it as an uninspiring installment in the Marvel saga, while others note its attempt to address contemporary issues.
The film has achieved significant box office success, grossing $40 million on its opening day in the United States, securing the top spot at the box office.
